Tai Chi Principles

Tai Chi is all about the yin-yang (pronounced young not yang) balance and harmony

yin= earth-water- negative- dark- feminine
yang=sky- fire- positive-bright-masculine

It's about balancing the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems within the body as well as the yin and yang described above. The sympathetic system associated with the fight or flight response which when out of balance can cause anxiety. The parasympathetic system activates tranquil functions which if out of balance may cause depression. A balance between these two systems is crucial for good health.

Balancing all of our systems brings us harmony. The three intentional points of focus are: body, mind and breath. In Tai Chi you move ever so slowly as you breath creating oxygen rich fuel. Unlike strenuous exercise which uses up this oxygen rich fuel, the body can use this fuel to heal the body. You send the fuel to places in your body using self massage and by massaging the microsystems within our body, the hands, feet and ears.
I am so happy to have such incredible power within my own body. I cannot help but feel I was drawn to Tai Chi because of the mantras I've been repeating daily in my meditation practice; "Mind, Body and Soul work together to create the ultimate life experience" and "every cell in my body is healthier every day". I now feel I have the resources to make both of these statements true.
