Lonesome Lake

It's been a week since my last post and quite a week its been. I had wonderful solitary day hikes on my days one and two. After a three plus hour shuttle ride I was dropped at Lafayette campground where I hiked south to Lonesome Lake Hut. It was marked as an "easy" trail but for me was a very difficult steep rocky trail straight up to this wonderful fog covered lake. I was passed by many people more accustomed to this type of trail. I was worried if this was the easy trail how was I ever gonna make it on the more difficult trails. It was a cloudy day that first day and the rain came down all night making for wonderful sleeping in my little bunk room. It was rather quiet so I had the 4 person bunk room to myself. The "croo" as they call themselves make a fantastic family style dinner. It was inspiring to see so many kids hiking the trails with their parents. The rain coming steady through the morning prompted my rain gear and I enjoyed the wet and slippery trail down with the rain hitting the leaves. I had to go back down the trail I came up the prior day and then through the campground and up the other side. "Old Bridal" path was supposed to be easier than the alternative trail; "falls" trail so that is the one I chose, both of these were marked intermediate. The AMC or Appalachian Mountain Club have been maintaining these huts since 1888.

Breaking for a bite to eat I immediately had a visitor. He swam right up to me and jumped out of the water to see if I would share. On the shuttle ride over, probably about 10 minutes into the ride, we saw a black bear by the side of the road. I was very excited I would love to see a bear in the woods. There was a moose that was hanging out by the lake but I never caught sight of him. I enjoyed my lunch with my friend here before hiking up to the hut. Very Peaceful first day.
