Gorgeous Evening just after the Magic Hour

A great blue heron landed in the tops of the trees behind my home last night which prompted me to get my 500mm lens on my camera so that I could try to capture him. Of course, to get a better shot I opened my sliding glass door and off he went. So I stood, in awe of the colors, the magical night, and took these of my new young trees. Wilma, the willow tree in the southwest corner of our lot and Ezekiel, the Zekova, purposely planted adjacent to my deck so that I could enjoy the birds he gives shelter.

For in the true nature of things, if we rightly consider, every green tree is far more glorious than if it were made of gold and silver. ~Martin Luther

Stand Still on the Creek

I tend to be the type of person who wants to fit in as much fun as possible. Hurry up and have fun kind of mentality. What a wonderful reminder today to slow down, stop even, as my kayak was held up by this newly fallen tree. I considered for a time trying to scrunch underneath the log but decided instead to accept this barrier; to take it for what it was, a chance to stop and relish in the beauty that surrounded me.

“Take a moment from time to time to remember that you are alive. I know this sounds a trifle obvious, but it is amazing how little time we take to remark upon this singular and gratifying fact. By the most astounding stroke of luck an infinitesimal portion of all the matter in the universe came together to create you and for the tiniest moment in the great span of eternity you have the incomparable privilege to exist.” ~ Bill Bryson I'm a Stranger Here Myself

Sunrise Surprise

The Sunrise is what initially caught my eye as it usually does each morning but this morning I took the time to look around and notice beauty lit up by the rays of the sun.

This was a nut I just noticed sitting upright on the dew covered table. I took the orange glow of sunrise out even though it was quite beautiful, I want the emphasis to be on the dark nut and the bokeh.
This is a macro shot of the hanging crystal on my deck so much beauty surrounds us each day if we take the time to notice.

Morning Meditation

My meditation spot this morning- I opened my eyes to these shadows. A self portrait?? Perhaps it's about the small bit of growth I've achieved showing me there is still much work to do. Perhaps it is about feeling caged or maybe it is about sensing and seeing things I've never seen before, the top left corner holds a third eye, seeing things that can't be seen, knowing things that can't be known.

Upon Reentry

My home's shadow with a path leading to it.

Looking for contradictions downtown Springfield- to me this is a heart open and ready but I can't seem to let myself go into it.

Omega Experience

A week at the Omega Institute with Douglas Beasley has opened my eyes to Zen Photography. These images are a small sample of the photos taken. What I take away from this is, "be inside all of your photos, for they are all self portraits". This doesn't mean literally, but it means tuning into what you are photographing. Being present in your moment so that you can become a part of your subject matter
